2020 was the year the Covid-19 Pandemic hit the world and South Africa, placing the whole world in a “go-slow” mode. One event that also took the world by storm was the Jerusalema Challenge, and the ladies at Bantwana College NPC Girls FC could not miss out on this worldwide opportunity to also take part in such an event. Looking back over the last seasons, we see that we have been blessed beyond measure.
So, the season ended with BCFC ending in the top 4. 2018 being the first year in a very competitive league that included clubs that has been playing Woman Football for 6 to 8 years achieving position 4 in this league was a great feat. 2019 was going to have to be an improvement, but we never expected it to be such a great one…
Ending 2nd in Division 1 of the RCLFA DSL League was not only an achievement that all players and coaches could be very proud of and could build on, but one that very few clubs in their second year of completion achieve. In fact, BCFC had a chance of ending the season on top of the league table, if it wasn’t for certain results that went the way of the opposition without kicking a ball.
2020 was to be the year that was the acid test, as this season would put all uncertainty beyond any doubt! This was not to be. 2021 could be THAT year?
2018 saw BCFC create the foundation for the start of their journey in the competitive arena as a team and also as a club. A pattern was created that have become the yearly program for BCFC and have set a standard that we aim to improve on annually:
- New Kit Handover Ceremony
- Pre-Season Tournament (Hosts – March)
- 5-a-side Charity Event (support)
- 7-a-side Tournaments (participants)
- Mid/End Season Tour
- Woman’s Month Tournament (Co-Host, Bosmont Football Association)
- End of Season 7-a-side Tournament (Hosts – November)
- Year End & Prize Giving Function
- Christmas Cheer at various homes and institutions (Ladies Old Age Home, Children’s Home)
So, 2018 and 2019 saw BCFC inaugural pre-season and end of year tournaments take place and run very successfully. Both Kit handover ceremonies were held at venues becoming the handover of kit to very special ladies – Randpark Country Club and Eagle Canyon and the year end functions were held at a very prestigious venue called Venue@185 on Beyers Naude Drive, Roodepoort. The ladies at Caro Ladies Retirement Home were the recipients of BCFC Festive cheer in 2018.
The Ladies League Knock Out Cup was an exciting competition in 2018 as well as in 2019. BCFC reached Semi-Final stages both years but never got past this stage of the competition.
The highlight of the 2018 season was the Champs of Champs Competition that BCFC managed to win and were crowned the 2018 Champion of Champions.
The players also excelled individually were BCFC had 2 players selected for u17 National Trial Camp with one making it to the Mini Olympic Team. The mini Olympics were held in Italy in July 2019.
2 Players also completed their SAFA D Football Coaching License. BCFC is committed to growing female football coaches and have embarked on registering 2 players annually on a coaching course (availability of courses held by SAFA).
2018 ENDED WITH ENORMOUS EXCEPTION AND FESTIVE CHEER….
2019 WAS TO BE GINORMOUS

COACHES BLOG #8
IT’S A FEW MORE DAYS, THEN IT’S CHRISTMAS AND JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS THEREAFTER, A BRAND NEW YEAR…2019…
2018 was a GIGANTIC year forBantwana College NPC Girls Football Club and believe that 2019 is going to be GINORMOUS.
We started the year with our Inaugural 11 v 11 Tournament, which was held in March and was a huge success. We had our Kit Handover Ceremony, which was attended by all players registered for the 2018 Winter League Season and their parents. This was held at Eagle Canyon Country Club in April. We entered and played in the Rovers Ladies FC 7 A Side Tournament and ended runners up.
BCFC supported 2 Charities this year, in the form of Ann Harding Cheshire Homes, where we participated in a 5 A Side Charity Fun Day at Old Parks Action Football Arena and supported Munyaradzi Tom Sundawo – as well as the Caro House Ladies Retirement Home where BCFC Girls, Ladies, Parents and Supporters took cheer in the form of Christmas goodies and carols. The Winter League in the Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) Development Soccer League (DSL) for Ladies started in May. BCFC ended 4th in the League in our first season of competing, and made it to the Semi-Finals of the RCLFA DSL League Cup. To conclude the footballing season, BCFC organised and ran its inaugural 7 A Side Ladies Tournament in November, which was massive success following on from the huge success earlier this year when BCFC hosted the 11 v 11 Pre-Season Tournament. A week later BCFC partook in the RCLFA DSL Champion of Champions and was crowned the Inaugural RCLFA DSL Ladies Champion of Champions 2018 – this made 2018 GIGANTIC for us. Yet another week later the players, parents, family, friends, supporters and sponsors enjoyed a well organised Year End Awards Function, held at Venue@185 Beyers Naude Drive Honey Dew, where all players were rewarded for their hard work throughout the season.
We had two junior players qualify as SAFA D Licensed Coaches earlier the year and also retained the services of Liezl Windvogel as our Senior Coach for the 2019 Season. Two other players were selected for the u17 National Selection Trials held at Safa’s state of the art National Technical Centre called Fun Valley. One of them made it to a select side that represented South Africa at the Mini Olympics in Italy in July. Two other players made the Select Schools Team and were recognized for their achievements by the respective bodies.
All of this would not have been possible without the support and hard work by great players, supporters, parents, officials, coaches, administrators, and friends and without a doubt our sponsors we have at BCFC. We are extremely blessed, grateful and honored that we can contribute to the development of grassroots girl’s football in our local community, LFA, Region, Province and Country. We would also like to thank our LFA – Mr, Jimmy Bakos and his team, for providing us with the opportunity and platform to be able to contribute in the manner that we are able to. THANK YOU ALL
We would like to wish everyone a Blessed and Merry Festive Season and an Abundantly Happy and Prosperous New Year – for those celebrating the birth of Christ, a Merry Christmas.
Watch out for our next blog or vlog on all social media platforms – we will continue to bring you the highlights of the 2018 Season as well as what could be expected for the 2019 Season and beyond, and what is happening in between. For now, thank you for choosing BCFC as your family club and team of choice and we pray that you will continue to support us, play for us, and be part of our footballing family in the future. We hope to make your experience a pleasant one and that you will excel, grow, learn and become the footballer you want to become; the supporter you choose to be; the sponsor that is proud of the brand they sponsor and the parent that has found a sporting footballing family to belong to. God bless, we shall see you on the field…. #BCFC4LIFE #2018ISGIGANTIC #2019ISGINORMOUS
